Aug. 23, 2006: RB Duckett a Redskin but Rarely Used

On Aug. 23, 2006, the Redskins traded a 3rd-round draft pick in a deal that landed Falcons running back T.J. Duckett, a former 1st-round selection.  Star running back Clinton Portis had dislocated a shoulder, so the Redskins felt the urge to acquire another quality runner.  But in a huge mystery, the 254-pound Duckett was barely used in 2006, his only year in D.C.  He rushed for 132 yards, while teammate Ladell Betts ran for more than 1,000.  In addition, the front-office could have spent virtually nothing to sign free agent Stephen Davis, one of the top rushers in Redskins history.  Instead, Davis signed with St. Louis and scored a TD in its win over Washington.
