Dec. 13, 1992: Buck and "The Play"

On Dec. 13, 1992, the Redskins benefited from “The Play” to pull off a 20-17 win over the Cowboys. With Dallas up, 17-13, late in the game at RFK Stadium, Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman set up to pass in his end zone, but defensive end Jason Buck forced a fumble.  Running back Emmitt Smith recovered the ball and tried to throw it, but he lost control and a pileup ensued. As the referees searched for the ball, Skins safety Danny Copeland emerged with it for the winning points. “The Play” was the coup de grace for Washington’s defense, which forced four turnovers and held the eventual-Super Bowl-champion Cowboys scoreless in the second half.
