Nov. 4, 1990: Rutledge Leads Miracle Comeback

The Redskins were eyeing a 4-4 record when they trailed the Lions by 21 points in the third quarter at the Silverdome on Nov. 4, 1990.  But Jeff Rutledge, a journeyman  quarterback, replaced Stan Humphries and played the game of his life.  He completed his first eight passes as part of a 30 of 42, 363-yard, one touchdown performance.  He also ran for a score.  His 40-yard pass to Art Monk in overtime sparked a drive climaxed by Chip Lohmiller’s field goal that gave the Redskins a 41-38 win.  Rutledge was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week.  The Skins tallied a team-record 674 yards, and their comeback from a 21-point deficit tied a team mark.
