Oct. 2, 1983: Redskins Pull Off Dramatic Win Over Raiders

Oct. 2, 1983: Redskins Pull Off Dramatic Win Over Raiders

When it comes to classics at RFK Stadium, this one easily fit the bill.  On Oct. 2, 1983, the Redskins fought back from a 15-point deficit with about 7 minutes left to beat the Raiders, 37-35.  Quarterback Joe Theismann, who had a spectacular day with 23 of 39 passing and a career-high 417 yards, threw two TDs during the comeback, including a 6-yarder to diving wingback Joe Washington to complete the miracle finish.  The two teams combined for nearly 900 yards of offense in a game touted as a possible preview to the Super Bowl.  Sure enough, they collided again that season in Super Bowl 18, with the Raiders embarrassing their foes, 38-9.
